The Kenai Peninsula is a rather large peninsula located in the south-central area of Alaska and a borough of Alaska at the same time. The name of this census area and peninsula comes from a native Alaskan tribe that inhabited the area since historical times. These people were known as the Kenaitze or Kahtnuht'ana Dena'ina, which means the people living along the Kenai River, called back the Kahtnu River. In the south-central part of Alaska, the Kenai Peninsula holds some of the most populous areas.
